WELCOME TO THE LARGEST DARK

SKY RESERVE ON EARTH

The Greater Big Bend International Dark Sky Reserve is the largest certified dark sky reserve on Earth, spanning more than 15,000 square miles across Texas and northern Mexico. Encompassing Big Bend National Park, Big Bend Ranch State Park, and vast protected areas along the Rio Grande, it is recognized for having some of the darkest and most pristine night skies in the continental United States. Here, visitors can witness the Milky Way blazing from horizon to horizon, trace constellations lost to light pollution elsewhere, and experience a rare sense of wilderness under the stars. Beyond its beauty, the reserve represents an extraordinary partnership between communities, parks, and international agencies working together to preserve natural darkness for wildlife, cultural heritage, scientific discovery, and generations of stargazers to come.
